Think of developmental milestones as building blocks. So, it’s important to help facilitate these skills through play. Let’s empower babies to learn through play, while empowering parents through education of age appropriate development. With thorough evaluation of baby’s functional abilities including posture, movement, strength and reflexes, we can help babies thrive. Treatment can include gentle manual therapy (or bodywork), therapeutic exercises, and a home plan for parents to carry through in order to optimize and deficits of feeding or development.
Breastfeeding is a whole body experience for baby. Many breastfeeding challenges have musculoskeletal and neurodevelopmental origins which an experienced therapist can help identify. Underlying causes may present as torticollis, neck/trunk/jaw tightness, tongue tie, developmental delay, neuromuscular dysfunction, or plagiocephaly/brachycephaly (head flattening). Any of these can challenges can lead to low milk supply, slow weight gain, or general developmental delay. I help you find solutions to help you meet your breastfeeding goals, whatever that may look like. + IBCLC pending 2020
